Hot Wheels Power Hockey

About Us

Hotwheels Beginning

The Hotwheels Power Hockey Team was founded in 2009 by Justin Verzaal as the coastal division of the NCEWHA (North Carolina Electric Wheelchair Hockey Association). The Team's early history started when Justin attended Camp Carefree in Stokesdale North Carolina and saw the Carolina Fury perform a demonstration of Power Hockey. Justin immediately feel in love with sport and was interested in participating in it. Justin contacted Jonathan Greeson who is the captain and founder of the Carolina Fury as well as the NCEWHA to see how he could be a part of this magnificent sport. Jonathan told Justin that he could come up to Pikesville and practice with the Carolina Fury. Jonathan also told Justin that a tournament was coming up so Justin could come and watch power hockey being played, as well as meet Jonathan and the rest of the Fury in person. Justin attended the tournament and at the end of the event; he got to meet Jonathan and the Team. Justin asked a lot of questions to learn more about the sport and got to try the sport firsthand. Jonathan suggested coming to a few practices, but Justin was a little discouraged at first knowing that the practices were 3 hours away and were twice a month. Justin then realized started why not just start a team in Wilmington and that is exactly what he did. Justin had to work really hard to get a team running down in Wilmington, but he did it. Justin never imagined that the Hotwheels could be as successful as they are today. The Hotwheels are continuing to grow and Justin hops that the Hotwheels will keep getting new players as well as get sponsorship's to help us get equipment and other supplies for the team.
